She squirted it into my cup shaped hands. I massaged it into my backside! Thumbs up from Emma. I slid down round the corner, there was no more ground left to cover! Splosh! Filthy mud! OOPS I forgot to shut my mouth and now it’s filled with mud. I scrambled up the opposite end of the pit covered in mud. I slipped over the greasy muddy surface of the ground. With my arms out I staggered towards Rebecca. ‘’Want a hug’’ I asked sarcastically. When she refused I ran around the border of the lake and had a fight on the slippery pole with a friend named Joseph (I won.) I fell off right after him though. The mud slide left your skin really smooth and refreshed. The bad thing was the taste of the mud, yuck!!! “Vertical Horizon’s camp was the BEST!!!

Bivouacking

We were sprinting back towards the D.O.C hut the girls and Mrs Shorter tailing us slowly. I arrived at the D.O.C hut first and had recovered my breathe before Mrs Shorter and the girls had returned. After everyone had recovered from the trek Mr Woodruff informed us we would be sleeping in a bivouac. We snatched our sleeping gear off the ground and bounded along the trail behind Mr Woodruff. As we approached the bivouac we noticed it was made out of tarpaulins with a bit of fern and a punga at one end to stop the water flowing in. When we tried to fit our gear in it wouldn’t fit. Daniel Brett and I were told we could sleep in the empty half of the woodshed. When we had carted our gear down to the shed and returned to the shed we were asked if we wanted to make a real bivouac. I readily agreed but Daniel and Brett weren’t to sure.

To make the bivouac we cut down a punga to use as a beam, tied between two other punga’s with small pieces of supal jack. We made an A frame out of some small trees and lay some punga fronds from bottom to top. We lay the punga fronds like roofing tiles so that the rain would run off. We applied some punga fronds to the sides so that wind or diagonal rains wouldn’t be able to reach us.
We constructed the bivouac with ease and of course Mr Woodruffs help. Our bivouac was located just down the hill from the girls so we had re-cart our gear to the new bivouac.

We slept very comfortably but when the girls reported to the reported to us in the morning, nearly all of them had slept with a root in their back. We reported to the girls that our night had been filled with horrible stenches stampeding pigs, screaming kiwis, moreporking moreporks and scraping possums.

Darren's Place

Hi my name is Darren.
